Now is the time to support the Campaign for Parks

Our state and local parks desperately need a boost in investment, as documented in our Parks at a Turning Point report. After years of under-funding and deferred maintenance, New York’s parks have major capital needs – to restore landscapes and habitats; repair water and sewer systems, comfort stations, pools, and campsites; rehabilitate crumbling buildings; and open thousands of acres of parkland now closed to public access.

A sampling of preliminary estimates tells the story: $6 million to replace railings and stabilize rock face at Niagara Falls; $3.8 million to improve drainage, resurface roads, rehabilitate the Roosevelt II Bathhouse, and restore natural habitats at Saratoga Spa State Park; $17 million to repair deteriorated bulkheads and leaking roofs at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx; and $4.1 million to relocate sewers, restore habitats, and rehabilitate the Jones Beach water tower.

With your contribution we can make sure our children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy our precious public parks.

Only with your support will we be able to –

  • Organize a vocal and effective coalition, including parks and environmental leaders, parks “friends” groups, and tourism and business stakeholders, to promote an aggressive agenda on parks issues
  • Advocate among opinion leaders and decision makers for improved stewardship and increased public and private investment in parks
  • Educate and mobilize the public about issues involving parks and their contribution to our environment, health, economy, and quality of life

Why support New York's parks?

  • Green space is disappearing at an alarming rate, as development pressures eliminate farmland and open space statewide
  • Parks are home to some of the state’s most significant natural treasures, more than 325,000 acres of open space, and over 500 separate populations of endangered or threatened plants and animals
  • Parks enable millions of New Yorkers, from Niagara to Montauk, to connect with nature, close to home.

Now is the time to support New York’s parks by making a contribution today to the Campaign for Parks – we cannot succeed without your help!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
