First annual Bike Your Park Day ride a success

On September 24, more than 25 cyclists of all ages and abilities rode between Albany’s Corning Riverfront Park and Peebles Island State Park as part of PTNY’s first annual Bike Your Park Day ride. PTNY’s ride was one of hundreds hosted across the country to celebrate National Public Lands Day. The event highlights the many open spaces and trails we can enjoy right in our back yards. Check out photos from the ride here.

Riders participating in PTNY’s Bike Your Park Day ride encountered perfect weather conditions, beautiful scenery, and an enjoyable ride along one of the nation’s longest multi-use trails, the Erie Canalway Trail. Upon arriving at Peebles Island State Park, Dave DeMarco of the Friends of Peebles Island hosted a walking tour and gave a brief history lesson on the State Park’s significance to the history of the region. Once the tour ended, cyclists made the return trip back to Albany.

PTNY is particularly appreciative of Bike Your Park Day due to the similarities between the purpose of the event and our mission to expand, protect, and promote a network of parks, trails, and open spaces throughout our state for use and enjoyment by all. The fact that we can easily leave our homes, and in a matter of minutes, be biking on a trail to a wonderful State Park or Historic Site truly speaks to how successful the park, trail, and greenway movement has been over the past three decades.

If you’d like to join us on next year’s Bike Your Park Day ride,
mark your calendars for September 30.
