Black Diamond Trail Opens

Phase one of the long-awaited Black Diamond Trail has been completed in Tompkins County near Ithaca. This 8.5-mile stone dust trail stretches from Allan H Treman State Park Marina to Taughannock Falls State Park and includes views of Cayuga Lake. The second phase of the trail is under development now, and it will connect the Marina to Buttermilk Falls State Park. Once complete, the multi-use trail will extend 12 miles.

The Black Diamond Trail was originally envisioned in the 1970's. After 40 years, the trail is finally becoming a reality thanks to the efforts of local residents, State Parks, and Governor Cuomo's New York Parks 2020 initiative.

“Southern Tier residents have been waiting a long time to make use of the Black Diamond Trail, and I’m proud to announce that this new recreational asset is now a reality,” Governor Cuomo said. “This is one more part of this administration’s ongoing commitment to modernizing our park system and building on this region’s natural strengths to increase tourism, boost economic activity and move this state forward.”
